Assuming that there is no shear stress at the Earth's surface (shear stress cannot occur in fluids), one of the principal stress components must be vertical and thus the other two must be horizontal.
For strike slip sigma 2 should be vertical not sigma 3.....in picture also sigma 2 is shown to be vertical.... But above you have shown sigma 3 to be vertical for strike slip

ReplyDeleteHi Lauren - it seems that you switched between sigma 2 in reverse fault and it should be strike slip fault.
ReplyDeleteSigma 2 vertical should be related to strike-slip fault.
